Six Important Aspects of Successful Vehicle Wrapping – Part 1

Creating and installing a unique, eye-catching and appealing vehicle wrap is only one of many parts when it comes to a successful marketing initiative. A well-done car wrap could help you harness tens of thousands of views per day.

When selecting your service provider, it is essential to understand that high quality car wraps are different from other printed material, such as flyers or banners. If you are looking for excellent outcomes, you need to look for an experienced and a well-knowledgeable service provider who understands the multiple aspects of vehicle wrapping including: design, material, production, preparation, installation and post installation. For the purpose of this blog, we will discuss the following:

  1. Design – Having the experience in addition to using the right tools, including templates, is necessary to avoid any distorted messages or sliced into pieces.
  2. Material – It is essential to be aware that while you search for high quality, some vendors might use low quality vinyl in an effort to extend to you a competitive price. Some of the best car wrap vinyls include 3M and Avery.
  3. Production – Depending on the vehicle vinyl brand that you choose, your service provider should know how to integrate the unique code specifically created for what you choose.

Stay tuned for our post next week where we will discuss car wrapping preparation, installation and post installation.

Extend Your Reach with Custom Vehicle Wraps

You have your business on your mind 24/7; you eat it, you breathe it, you sleep it. You want everyone to know about what you do and the amazing products/services you offer. You want to highlight your unique selling proposition and showcase the value you add to your customers. You are passionate about your business and you want the whole world to know about it. But sometimes, regardless of how much and how often you say it, people simply do not listen!

So what can you do to stay top of mind without losing your breath? You may want to consider custom vehicle wrapping, including graphics and letters, as a way to market your business consistently and continuously.

As we addressed in previous posts, vehicle wraps are very cost effective and they help you garner tons of advertising impressions for your business as long as they are being used properly.

It is understandable that you want to let your prospects know about all the different services and products that you offer but you want to make sure to avoid the pitfall of listing out every one of your offerings on your vehicle. Remember, too much text could overload and confuse your viewer and discourage them from focusing on your message.

So when considering custom vehicle wraps, try to focus on designs and letters that your viewer can take notice of and understand quickly. Your logo should be displayed prominently along with your basic contact information including your website and phone number. A brief tagline might be a good fit as well. Your goal is not to educate your customer about everything you do but rather to get their attention and get them intrigued to look further into what you offer, give you a call or even check out your website. Let your vehicle do the work for you and always remember that LESS IS MORE!

How to Maintain Brand Consistency?

Your marketing efforts could include multiple and diverse initiatives that usually help expand your reach and stay top of mind. In order to ensure consistency, you should consider creating a set of guidelines that connect together the look and feel of all of your marketing materials. Also known as your brand standards, such guidelines will help you expand by creating awareness while developing the key differentiators your company has when compared to the competition.

Consider focusing your efforts on the following:

  • Your Colors – considering that you integrate colors in everything you do when it comes to marketing, advertising, communication and more, it is crucial to remember that this specific element plays a major role in leaving a lasting impression on your target marketing. As you commit to a palette, remember that every color has a different meaning and level of influence.
  • Your Logo – the design of your logo should be consistent but also is the case with its placement and sizing. Every communication is an opportunity to leave an impression on the recipient; from letterheads to postcards, from emails to brochures…
  • Your Graphics – The symbols and shapes you use for branding purposes should be consistent as well in order to help your audience to remember you as you work your way to stay top of mind.

Always remember that your brand is your promise to your customers and prospects about what they can expect, how you deliver and what makes you different in the marketplace.  Consistency should lead to strong equity increasing your customers’ levels of loyalty and commitment. Are you being consistent with your branding efforts?

The Importance of Taglines

Despite being a very important element of branding and marketing, taglines are not given the attention they deserve.  Although they are simple, taglines are very effective because they communicate a consistent message to your target market as it projects the mission, goal, vision and unique selling proposition of your company.

Your tagline can be updated as you progress with your business’ goals and shift strategy reflecting a fresh and focused company presence. Taglines should be:

  • Simple and clear
  • Creative and unique
  • Memorable and persuasive

Taglines should be thought of from the first moment you start your planning for branding or launching a new marketing campaign. Having a tagline allows you the opportunity to add an emotional message to your brand which will make you stand out as you start coming to mind first.

A tagline that will help you cut through the clutter should be one that communicates the company’s benefits with personality while connecting with your target market on an emotional level.

  • Taglines derive from your mission, vision, products and services. They:
  • Showcase and link your offerings to a need
  • Extend a promise to your target market
  • Tie to your logo

The value of taglines build and grow for years and with time working along with your company name and logo to help with your marketing and branding efforts.

Taglines can be included in:

  • Advertisements
  • Business cards
  • Collateral material
  • Digital marketing files
  • External signage
  • Internal signage
  • Wall murals
  • Vehicle wraps

They are mobile and have a wide reach due to the constant use of vehicles which will help your business build widespread awareness and expanded reach. They increase your daily visibility and they are the most memorable visual media with the lowest cost per thousand impressions.

We are talking about the effective way of marketing through car and truck wraps!

With exquisite designs and unique bright colors, vehicle wraps leave a lasting impression on your target market. While TV commercials can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even millions, car and truck wraps help you leave a lasting impression and generate a favorable reaction on behalf of your customers for only a few thousand dollars.

The sky is the limit when it comes to creative design for your vehicle wraps. The following are a few elements to take into consideration:

  • Vehicle template
  • Visibility of design
  • Target market
  • Market goals
  • Readability and effectiveness

Turn your vehicle or entire fleet into mobile billboards with eye catching, colorful graphics.  Our tag line is “Making yourcar.wesite business the center of attention” and there are few ways to market your brand more cost effectively than transforming your vehicle into a lean mean lead generator.  Our professional designers and installers love, love vehicle wrap projects!  Don’t wait; generate traffic while you’re in traffic!

A full vehicle wrap may not be in your budget at this time.  So consider doing a partial wrap where only your doors are wrapped, or to start why not just do your back window with your logo and website address?  If you have camera ready art we can install something like what is shown above for as little as $125.

What does a full or partial car wrap or truck wrap cost in Orange County?

Car_Wraps_Decals
Vehicle Wraps Full & Partial
Vehicle Wraps Full & Partial

If you are considering wrapping your car or truck, the first question that likely popped into your head was, “How much will it cost?” This article outlines what to ask and what to look for as you shop for a company to do your job.

How long you want the wrap to last is the most important determining factor in the cost of the project. The quality of vinyls available on the market today vary widely.  I have spoken with people who, unfortunately, had their vehicle wraps begin to fade much earlier than they expected, because inferior vinyl was used. Buyer beware. Before you sign on the dotted line ask your sign company what specific brand of vinyl they will be using on your wrap job. There are a number of imported vinyls from China that are economical but quite candidly inferior. They may be prone to cracking, fading and simply don’t have the durability as American-made product.

At Focal Point Signs & Imaging we use only Avery and 3M vinyls and over laminates. This is because these products are American-made, best of class, and fully warrantied. Even between these two manufacturers there are a number of options. The least expensive option would be a four-year high performance vinyl. The longest lasting choice would be a 10 year vinyl. But as the saying goes, ‘You get what you pay for’.

The second most important factor in determining who should be doing your wrap job is the over laminate that will be used to protect the ink. Again, choosing an Avery or 3M UV protected over laminate will get you the best results. These laminates are created specifically to be used in conjunction with the Avery and 3M cast high-performance vinyls.

The third factor impacting the cost of a wrap job is the actual printer used to lay the ink down on the vinyl. At Focal Point Signs & Imaging we use the HP L26500 latex ink printer largely regarded as the finest large-format printer in the world today. There are three reasons this printer is considered to be the best printer for a wrap job. First, the vinyl comes out of the printer dry to the touch. Eco solvent printers of the past produced prints that need hours of cure time. Secondly, latex inks do not gas out, are eco-friendly, and longer lasting than solvent inks. Lastly, the number of inkjets in the HP L26500 are three times that of previous printers giving this mighty beast the ability to produce up to 1080 dpi in full color. This is photographic quality in large format.

In fact this printer is so good I recently received a phone call from a man in Florida who requested that we print the vinyl, laminate it, and ship it back to him. Considering we’re in California and he was willing to pay the shipping costs – that says something about the quality we are able to produce.

The final factor determining the cost of your wrap job is the labor. For a truly professional result you’ll need to find a shop that has professionally trained installers who know how to remove mirrors, bumpers, and door handles among other things.

We strive to work with our clients to produce the highest quality while working within their budgets. Often times this means considering a partial wrap instead of a full wrap. Avoiding the areas of the car that require body shop knowledge to take off and put back on pieces like the door handle is one approach we take. This of course requires detail to design.

If your budget is really limited, you may want to consider doing the windows of your vehicle only. Make sure you go to a professional sign company for your installation. At Focal Point Signs and Imaging we design, print, and install window vinyls on a regular basis.

Considering a Car Magnet instead of a Car Wrap to promote your business?

Magnetic Signs
Magnetic Signs
Magnetic Signs

714-204-0180 We work with businesses in all of Orange County, but predominately in Tustin, Irvine, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, to find solutions for promoting their business through signage. One avenue to creatively market is through turning your car, truck, or fleet into mobile bill boards. Car wraps are extremely popular, but not every business can afford a full car wrap first time out. If this is the case for you, consider doing a magnet to start out.

There are pros and cons to using car and truck magnets. The pros are: If you live in an HOA that prohibits commercial vehicle parking your magnet may be removed to avoid any conflict, whereas a wrap…not so much. This is also handy if you’re going to dinner or a high school reunion. The cons are: dirt can easily get between the magnet and the paint surface and end up scratching the paint. Regular maintenance is required to properly care for your car magnet. Also, please be warned; if you go on the internet and find a cheap online order car magnet site, chances are the magnet will be of the quality you just paid for. We custom print your magnet using latex ink on 3M vinyl with a UV laminate to protect the color on your magnet sign for years to come. There is no better quality anywhere. That said, here is a guide for maintaining your car magnet.

Expectations
Your sign is made from the finest “state of the art” magnetic material
available to bring you the best in magnetic mobile advertising. As with
anything kept outside, it will weather over time, but proper care can
lengthen its life. We cannot be held responsible for any misapplication
or misuse of your signage.

Installation
1. Wash and wipe your vehicle clean, and then dry it.
2. Wax the vehicle surface over which the magnetic sign is being
placed with a high quality wax for the protection of your vehicle.
3. Touch the magnetic sign to the vehicle. If it isn’t exactly where you
want it, remove it and replace it – don’t slide it. Do not apply a
magnetic sign to a newly repainted vehicle – allow at least 60 days for
fresh paint to cure.

Cleaning
Remove your sign from the vehicle once a week and wipe both the
vehicle and the front and back of the sign clean and dry. Re-wax the
vehicle. Put the sign back on in a slightly different spot each time. To
clean the face of magnetic signs, use a sponge and mild detergent. Do
not immerse in water. Wipe dry. Never steam clean signs or take
through a car wash.

Storage
Magnetic signs must be stored either flat on a metal surface or rolled
up in a tube. WARNING! Do not store magnetic signs unrolled and
unprotected inside a hot vehicle. The passenger compartment of your
car, truck or van on a hot day can reach temperatures equivalent to
those of an oven, especially with windows closed. These extremely
high temperatures can distort and destroy your signs unless they are
rolled up into a tube. The best way to store magnetic signs when not
on your vehicle is to keep them rolled (with the magnetic side in and
the printed side out) in a common, inexpensive mailing tube. A 3”
diameter tube is ideal – do not use a smaller tube. Do not roll signs
tightly – roll as large as can be easily fit into the tube. Temperature
need not be a concern when the sign is attached to the vehicle.
Do not damage signs by folding, creasing, or putting heavy objects on
top of them. If signs should get severely bent out of shape due to poor
maintenance, do not use them. They can usually be straightened out
by placing them on a flat metal surface for a day or so, such as a filing
cabinet, desk, refrigerator, etc., which is also an alternative way to
store your signs when not in use on your vehicle.

Introducing the eco-friendly HPL26500 large format latex printer by Focal Point Signs & Imaging in Costa Mesa, CA

HPL26500 latex printer

It may seem counter-intuitive to think of  eco-friendly commercial printing, but the HP L26500 printer we use is exactly that.  This new technology not only is capable of reproducing photographic quality images in spectacular full color, but also uses inks that are not chemically based, but rather are water based.  Interestingly enough, the inks used by this technology last longer than those used in the past and are more durable too.  We also have the flexibility of printing on a multitude of materials including banner, vinyl, poster, polyester, nylon, and wall paper. What is more impressive is that the HPL26500 prints on PVC Free wall paper which is perfect for hospitals and schools and because this is latex based there is no residual ink or chemical smell. HP even makes a biodegradable banner material perfect for Green Companies.

Yes, I do sound a bit like a geekazoid getting all excited about what this “mother of all large format printers” can do…but, the color quality she rips out is absolutely stunning.  Recently I received a phone call from the property manager of a large business park here in Orange County.  She’s been using the same sign guy since Moses brought the tablets down from the mountain, so her guy is comfortable making her post and panel signs, but he’d not yet encountered this project.  She wanted a facelift for the leasing office which included a new lobby sign – which is to be the center jewel of the remodel.  Imagine the classy look of polished acrylic on a large scale, affixed to the freshly painted walls with 3/4″ brushed aluminum stand offs, and full color graphics of the complex with their logo proudly blazed across the bottom….a vision of loveliness.  However, her sign guy was using old technology that couldn’t reproduce the colors she wanted.  A big Lobby Sign (the first impression of the professionalism of the organization) is a big deal and this lady wants it right!  That’s where we came in.  We were able to exactly reproduce the gradient colors she needed and in such high quality, it was perfection.  So –  it’s a happy end to the story all because we use the HPL26500.

If you need super high quality graphics for your signage; lobby signs, vehicle wraps, banners, or any other sign – call us.  Focal Point “where your business is the center of attention”. 714-204-0180
